Medicare Premiums – Beware Of Deceptive E-Mail With Political Slant

As is always the case in an election year, hot topics are regularly used as canon fodder. One such hot topic is Medicare. The deceptive letter below is making the rounds via e-mail on the letterhead of Blue Cross of Alabama, appearing official until you notice the political commentary. The information in the e-mail regarding premium increase to Medicare part B is false. Future premium adjustments (increases or decreases) will depend on trends in the cost of healthcare.

Standard Premiums for Part B

(Some beneficiaries will pay less, some will pay more.)

Year                             Stnd. Premium
2009 $96.40
2010 $110.50
2011 $115.40
2012 $99.90

Again, future premium adjustments (increases or decreases) will depend on trends in the cost of healthcare. Please do not get caught up in the hysteria of this deceptive e-mail:

MEDICARE

Look clearly at the 2014 rate compared to the 2013 rate. For those of you who are on Medicare, read the following. It’s short, but important and you probably haven’t heard about it in the Mainstream News:

“The per person Medicare Insurance Premium will increase from the present Monthly Fee of $96.40, rising to:

$104.20 in 2012

$120.20 in 2013

And

$247.00 in 2014.”

These are Provisions incorporated in the Obamacare Legislation, purposely delayed so as not to confuse the 2012 Re-Election Campaigns. Send this to all Seniors that you know, so they will know who’s throwing them under the bus.

The information in the e-mail message above is false. As usual in the insurance industry, future premium adjustments (increases or decreases) will depend on trends in the cost of healthcare.
